The Nordic Barrel Sauna is built from thermowood pine — timber that has been heat-treated to significantly improve its dimensional stability, resistance to moisture, and resistance to decay without the use of chemical preservatives. In outdoor conditions, thermowood performs substantially better than untreated softwood and requires less maintenance than most alternative timber choices for permanent garden structures.
The barrel form is not a design concession — it is structurally efficient, directing condensation to the floor and maintaining heat distribution more effectively than a square-section sauna of equivalent volume. The interior bench arrangement seats two adults comfortably, with extended benches on both sides allowing a full-length reclining position.
The Nordic is available with either a wood-burning sauna stove or a wall-mounted electric heater with digital temperature control. The wood-burning option produces a more traditional sauna experience and requires no external power connection; the electric option provides faster heat-up times and a more consistent temperature that can be controlled remotely.
Both versions include a sauna stone set, interior bench, backrest, and exterior changing porch with bench seating. The exterior is finished with exterior decking oil as standard and requires an annual re-application to maintain the timber appearance over time.
